7 Little Things That Will Lead to Big Results

Practical ways to create big results through daily consistent efforts

Nobody wants to hear excuses and everyone wants results. Your boss isn't interested in baby steps.

Your investors don't care about a step in the right direction. So where can we start to create major results in our lives? What are those baby steps to greatness?

Here are 7 little things that will lead to big results.

1. Read.

Many we hold as successful in our society aren't readers. That's dangerous. If you don't like reading, listen to audiobooks. If you don't like modern authors, then read the classics.
If you need a curated list of great (non-main stream books), head over to Ryan Holiday's blog and join his newsletter. He offers a thoughtful book list to keep you intellectually and spiritually stimulated.
Or don't read, and let your brain atrophy. Up to you.

2. Meditate.

Our inner monolog's default mode is aggressive self-destruction. We tell ourselves that we can't do it, we need time off, our boss hates us. We ruminate that our spouse is cheating, or our investors will put out of our startup. Whatever your situation I imagine you wrestle to silence your monkey brain. Meditation helps.
If you can't sit still then do this, while you're driving, or walking or commuting, just be aware. Feel your clothing on your skin. Feel your breath in your chest. Breathe in and smell the scents in the air. While you're doing this, you're effectively silencing your monkey brain.
Congratulations. You're meditating.

3. Exercise.

The only way to hack your mental chemistry is to exercise. If you can't exercise, stand up. Yes, seriously. There have been studies that say sitting is worse for our bodies than smoking.
I'm obsessed with CrossFit. The varied movements keep me stimulated and the intensity keeps my body in peak condition. I also know that I need to CrossFit for my mental health. I cannot over state this. Get moving. Every. Single Day.

4. Get enough sleep.

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute says that "getting enough quality sleep at the right times can help protect your mental health, physical health, quality of life, and safety."
So the next time you feel a burning desire to take over the world, make sure you get a good night's sleep first.

5. Eat well.

My Father used to say "do you eat to live, or live to eat." The lesson being that if you live to eat you may be placing too much emphasis on the food you use to fuel your body.
I'm not a foodie. If I could take a pill and not eat, I would. But if you keep the promise that you're fueling your body, you may not eat that cupcake at midnight.
So give yourself the gift of high octane fuel so you can perform like a Ferrari, not a Honda.

6. Drink less.

At no point has anyone ever said to themselves that they should drink more. I'm not saying you shouldn't enjoy a good California Cabernet with friends. But the moment that drinking slows you down during your work day. It may be time to take slow down.

This is a small thing that will have a major impact on your well-being and success. Try this - stop drinking during the week for three weeks and let me know what happens. I bet you lose some weight, have more energy and get more powerful little things done.
Now you can go about the business of creating great big results.

7. Practice active gratitude.

About ten years ago the motive "The Secret" came out. There was a lesson in the movie that stuck with me. It can help you. When you wake up and place your feet on the floor, say to yourself "thank you." Say thank you again for every step you take to the bathroom. Continue this mantra throughout your morning ritual, you will shift your energy.

I would find myself seeking things to be grateful for. The ability to walk, or feel warm water on my face, or that I have running water. The options are endless. The power of gratitude will shift your energy and will change the way the world interacts with you.
