A Call in the Stillness of
Night
It was a quiet night in a small wooden cabin,
far away from the noise of the world. A weary man lay asleep, his days often
filled with worry and his nights filled with silent questions about life.
Suddenly, his room filled with a radiant light. Startled, he sat up—and in that
glow, he heard the voice of the Lord.
"I have a
task for you," the Lord said, pointing toward a massive rock in front
of the cabin. "Push against that rock with
all your strength."
The man, though confused, nodded in obedience.
He did not ask “why” or “how long”—he simply trusted the voice.
The Endless Struggle
Day after day, from sunrise to sunset, the man
pushed against the cold, immovable stone. His hands blistered, his back ached,
and his body grew weary. Each evening he returned to his cabin, drained and
discouraged.
Weeks turned into months, and months into
years. Still, the rock stood unmoved.
The Voice of Doubt
Seeing his discouragement, the Adversary crept
into his thoughts:
"Why
kill yourself over this? You’ve been pushing for so long, and the rock hasn’t
moved an inch. You’re wasting your life. Just give the minimum effort. It’s
good enough."
The man almost gave in. His heart was heavy
with disappointment. Before quitting, he decided to pray one last time.
The Honest Prayer
"Lord,"
he prayed, tears streaming down his face, "I
have labored with all my strength. I have given my best every single day, but
after all this time, I have failed. The rock hasn’t moved even a little. Why am
I failing You?"
The Lord’s Answer
The Lord replied with deep compassion:
"My
child, I never asked you to move the rock. I asked you to push it. Look at
yourself now—your arms are strong, your back is firm, your hands are roughened
with endurance, and your legs have grown powerful. Through your struggle, you
have become stronger, wiser, and more faithful. Your job was obedience, not
results. The moving of the rock is My job, not yours."
The man wept in realization. His failure was
not failure at all—it was growth, strength, and faith in disguise.
The Moral of the Story
In life, we often measure success by
results—by whether the “rock” moved. But sometimes, our task is not to see
instant results, but to stay faithful, obedient, and consistent.
The rock may represent challenges, unanswered
prayers, or long struggles. While we push with all our might, we grow in
character, endurance, and strength. And when the time is right, it is God who
moves the mountain.

Final Thought
This story reminds us that life is less about moving the rock and more about becoming stronger while pushing it. Stay faithful. Stay patient. Stay hopeful. Because sometimes, the most important work is happening inside you while you keep pushing.
