Entrepreneurship is a Marathon, Not a Sprint.

PitBull answers the question: What does entrepreneurship mean to you? The bottom line is that entrepreneurship is about ownership. It’s about you controlling your own destiny, building the team that you want, and carrying out the vision you have.

We have a saying in the music business that goes like this: “The music business is simple. It’s 90% business and 10% talent.” So, you have to know business to survive in music. And how do you survive? By constantly modifying, mutating, pivoting, and thinking outside the box. You have to think of untraditional and unconventional ways to make things happen.

The music business missed out on some major opportunities when they didn’t partner with Steve Jobs and other new ideas. The business didn’t have the vision at the time. So, the music business is shrinking. And in order to grow, you have to find opportunities.

Being able to find those opportunities, that is true entrepreneurship. The next biggest thing you can do as an entrepreneur is invest in yourself, in your team, and in those you believe in and who believe in you. And you’ve got to have a good product with longevity because entrepreneurship is a marathon, not a sprint. We have a saying in Spanish which translates to “Short steps, long vision.”

If you can understand this philosophy and apply it, then I think you can truly embody what it is to be an entrepreneur.
