How To Clean Pressure Cooker

Can you imagine your kitchen without a pressure cooker? Right from our favourite homemade biryani to delicious cakes, this airtight pot can help us handle just any recipe.

Also, pressure cookers are time and energy-saving. The amazing benefits of this instant pot make it a staple in every kitchen. The only issue that many of us face while using this kitchen accessory is that it is tricky to clean.

A lot of time we end up burning our food and those black stains get just too stubborn. With time, these pressure cookers also lose their original shine and look dirty and old. So, we thought of bringing you an easy, pressure cooker cleaning guide. Read on.

Warm Water, Washing Liquid

The easiest way to clean your pressure cooker after use is by using some warm water and dishwashing liquid. So, first, fill the pressure cooker with warm water and add 1-2 tsp of dishwashing liquid. Allow this liquid to soak for about an hour or so.

After a few hours, drain half of the water and run the pressure cooker under hot water. Using a sponge dipped in dishwashing liquid, start to clean the surface of the cooker with the sponge. Don't forget to clean the cooker lid and gasket with the sponge. Rinse with normal water.

Onion Skin

If you have been using your pressure cooker for long, you must have noticed the surface has got black. This is a common stain but if not cleaned on time, it can start to spoil the flavour of your food.

An easy hack to remove stubborn black stains is by using onion skin. In a pressure cooker, add some water and drop in onion skin. Place on a stove and heat. After 15-20 minutes, remove from flame and strain water. Using a scrubber, remove the black stain.

Vinegar Mix

Vinegar is commonly used for cleaning. It can help clean up the white layer that gets deposited on the pressure cooker with time. Fill the pressure cooker with water and add 1 cup of white vinegar to it. Keep this solution overnight. The next morning, wash the pressure cooker under running water.

Lemon Juice

Lemon is also a good cleansing agent. You can scrub lemon directly on the pressure cooker and then run it under regular water. Another way is preparing a mix of lemon juice and water. Add in some dishwashing liquid and mix. Using a sponge clean the pressure cooker inside out.

Baking Soda

To give your pressure cooker an all-new look, you can use some baking soda. Fill the pressure cooker with water and add 1 tbsp of baking soda. Keep this solution for 2-3 hours. If the stains are stubborn, you can also add 1 tsp of dishwashing liquid. Rinse with regular water.

Washing Pressure Cooker Lid And Gasket

Not just the cooker, it is important that you clean the lid and gasket too. For this, always use a sponge or a non-metal scrubber or you can end up leaving marks on the lid.

Some pressure cookers have a detachable lid. In this case, you can remove it and rinse it with water. Scrub it with a sponge dipped in dishwashing liquid, rinse and let dry.

We hope this guide helps you clean your pressure cooker properly.
