Follow these 10 Googling tips to get your search results quickly

The internet world is vast and full of information and millions of people use Google every day for a variety of reasons. We run to Google for even the smallest piece of information. However, sometimes you need to chase relatable content to get your work done. You keep on searching for words or phrases on the internet to get authentic and relatable information that you want.

10 Googling tips to use Google search efficiently

Use the tabs

The most basic tip is to use the tabs in Google search. There are a number of tabs given at the top of every Google search, such as Web, Image, Videos, News and more. You can use these tabs to define what kind of search you want to do. For instance, if you are looking for a recent news article related to your content, you can use the 'News' tab.

Use of quotation mark

You can make use of quotes while searching for something specific. This basically minimizes the guesswork for Google search. So, if you want to search for an exact term, put it under quotes to get the exact results. Putting your search parameters in quotes tells the search engine to search for the whole phrase. For ex. "coconut recipes" or "Stocks to buy". Doing this helps in locating specific information that may be buried under other content.

Use a hyphen or dash to exclude words

It is possible that sometimes you are searching for a word with an ambiguous meaning. For ex. 'Mustang'. When you Google search for a Mustang, you may get the results for both cars made by Ford or the horse. So, you can cut one out by simply using the hyphen. For ex. When you type Mustang -cars, it tells the search engine to search for mustangs but to remove any results that have the word 'car' in it. This helps the search engine to ignore irrelevant content.

Use 'Site:' to search specific sites

Sometimes, you want to Google search for articles or content from a certain website. So, to search for specific content on a particular site, the syntax is very simple. You just need to use "site:" between the term and site. For ex. Apple site: www.indiatoday.in. This will search for all content about Apple but only on India Today. All the other search results will be removed.

Search within a range of numbers

This tip is particularly useful for people interested in money or statistics. You can use two dots and a number to let Google search know that you're looking for something within a specific range of numbers. For ex. "What teams have won The World Cup ..2020." The two dots narrow down searches to a specific number to improve search results as it will not include anything before or after 2020.

Always try to keep it simple

This is the most basic and general tip you can use while searching on Google. You must not complicate your search for words or phrases. Instead, try to keep it as simple as possible. For ex. if you want to search for restaurants nearby, just use this search; "nearby places to eat" or "restaurants nearby".

Limit your search with important words only

Google search works by taking what you search for and matching it with keywords in online content. So, when you search for too many words, it may limit your results and will not produce expected results. Ultimately, it will take you longer to find what you're looking for. Therefore, you must not complicate your keywords and use only the important words when searching for something. For instance, you must not use, "Where can I find an Indian restaurant that delivers". Instead, try: "Indian restaurants nearby."

Use location

This point can be treated as an extension of the above point. You can be more specific with your search results by typing in the location. You can use location to search for results related to a specific location. For ex. Shahrukh Khan: Mumbai. This will display results with the content including Shahrukh Khan in Mumbai. Be it a party, event, film shoot and more.

Gradual adding of search terms

You must not add too much information at one go as millions of websites use the same information in a number of different ways. This basically refines the search with the best info and brings to you fewer but more targeted terms.

Google search has shortcuts

Google has its own algorithms on which it works. It can immediately provide you with the information you need and display it right at the top of the search results. This ultimately saves time and effort as you don't have to go through various links. However, you can use some commands or shortcuts that will provide you with better results.

For instance, "Weather *zip code*", you can give town and city names and this will show you the weather in the given zip code. Similarly, "Time *place*" will display the time in whatever place you type in.
