18 soul-nourishing activities to add to your Sunday routine

18 soul-nourishing activities to add to your Sunday routine

If the thought of going back to work gives you the Sunday-night blues, give these 18 soul-nourishing activities a try to get your week started on the right foot. No more letting Mondays get you down; rev up your productivity and start looking forward to your Sundays.

Read an inspiring book

Pick up an inspiring read from your nearest library or bookstore and immerse yourself in its words of wisdom throughout the week. Whatever your needs or aspirations, you’re bound to find a title that will lift your spirits and boost your motivation.

Write down seven positive affirmations

Here’s a simple way to improve your well-being in the long term: Write out seven positive affirmations on separate pieces of paper, then fold each piece in two and place them in a bowl near your bed. Every morning, choose one affirmation at random and keep it in mind for the rest of the day.

Extend your workout

No matter what sport or workout you fancy, try adding a few minutes to your exercise routine. It’s Sunday, so you’ve got some time to spare! Working up a sweat will keep you from dwelling on the fact that the weekend is coming to an end.

Try a new beauty product

Whip up a homemade concoction (you’ll find plenty of recipes and easy-to-follow YouTube tutorials online) or purchase products that come in smaller sizes so that you can try something new each week. For budget-friendly pampering, keep an eye out for free samples at the drugstore.

Do some guided meditation

A little introspection can do a lot of good! Grab your headphones and follow along with a guided meditation session on YouTube to melt away tension, refocus, or simply relax. You might end up enjoying the experience so much that it becomes part of your weekday routine!

Learn a new language

How about learning a new language (even just a word or two!) to cap off your week? Exercise your linguistic muscles by becoming acquainted with French, Italian, Spanish, or any language you like. Over the course of a year, setting aside just one hour every Sunday adds up to more than 50 hours of language learning!

Take the time to visualize your week

Think about the week ahead: Is there anything you absolutely have to get done? Any appointments you can’t afford to miss? Devote some time every Sunday to planning out your week. Visualize potential trouble spots and brainstorm solutions in advance.

Slow down for 15 minutes

Dropping everything for a bit of “me time” is easier said than done. Start with mini exercises in self-awareness—five minutes of silence, for example, to observe what’s going on around you. Extend this period by a few minutes each week; the more you practise slowing down, the more natural it will become. You can also do these exercises during the week.

Write down your accomplishments

Designate a notebook for recording any personal accomplishments from the past week. If ever you’re feeling low on morale, flip through your achievements for an instant pick-me-up. It might also be useful to jot down short-term goals for the week to come.

Set out a bouquet of flowers

Flowers can brighten up not only your home, but also your mood. Fill a vase with your favourite blooms from the garden, or pick up a bouquet from the florist. Literally stopping to smell the roses could make all the difference in how you approach your week.

Tidy up your bedside table

Your bedside table is the first thing you see every morning. Since physical clutter can lead to a cluttered state of mind, try doing a quick cleanup on Sunday evenings to ensure you wake up to a tidy surface. Maybe even deep-clean the entire house while you’re at it to really set the tone for the week.

Rewatch a beloved movie

Sundays should be all about you. Indulge in your all-time favourite film—the one that never fails to make you smile and put you in a good mood. Alternatively, put on a couple of episodes of your favourite TV show.

Take a nap

Starting your week well rested will go a long way toward ensuring it goes smoothly. Heading into Monday with nothing in the tank will only make you dread the days to come. Recharge your batteries with a Sunday-afternoon nap!

Cuddle with your pet

Quality time with your pet will help you relax and de-stress. If you don’t have one, offer to pet-sit for a friend or consider volunteering at an animal shelter. Animal-assisted therapy is a great way to get rid of those Sunday-night blues.

Enjoy a candlelit evening

To bring your weekends to a calm and soothing end, skip the loud music, turn off the lights, and pull out some old-fashioned candles. Don’t underestimate the power of creating a cosy, peaceful ambience: it’ll make the thought of Monday seem downright mundane.

Make your favourite recipe

Cook up the dish that takes you to your happy place. Sitting down to a comforting meal can do wonders for your mood. Sundays are the perfect time to do some proper cooking while getting to savour every last bite!

Give yourself a manicure

Tap into your creative side and use those idle Sunday hours to deck out your nails in dazzling colours and designs. You’ll be able to admire your handiwork all week long.

Write

Start your Sundays by penning a letter to someone you care about. Whether it’s a brief note expressing how much they mean to you or a few words of encouragement, you can feel good just thinking about how delighted the person will be when they open their mailbox. Blank cards are a great option—they leave extra room for adding a personal touch.
